Kthulu
Ok... I want to set up partitions on XP....Mainly to take all my MP3's, Thousands of photos, All my gaming and other stuff away from my OS so that I can reformat my c:/ drive and get rid of some of the nasty stuff that is lurking in there just now...Is it possible to do this without making a ballz-up of it and deleting all the stuff Im deliberatly partitioning off to keep....How do I do this reformat without it wiping all the new drives too.. ie d: e: etc...or will it automatically know my OS is on c: and go with that...That doesn't even make sense to me... Don't do n/shift...Its a killer
-pops-
I don't do nightshift, I'm just an early riser :) . Welcome to Windows Forum. How about installing a second hard drive, transferring all your personal files on to that then reformatting/re-installing Windows on your current drive?Hard drives are not expensive now and it would be a lot safer doing this than trying to partition a drive which already has data on it. Even with programs designed to partition discs that already have data on them, like Partition Magic, there is a definite risk of something going wrong - at which time it's too late. You should, in addition, have a backup of your system, just in case the worst happens - and believe me it can and does. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I use PartitionMagic for this kind of stuff; it's safe, and it can do lots of stuff that Windows' own disk manager cannot do.I reccmmend that you defragment your current C: drive thoroughly, then resize it to whatever you need. Then create a secondary partition, where you can move the stuff you want to keep. Then just reformat the C: drive and re-install XP.Posted almost at the same time as -pops- -- good advice as always; do a backup before anything!
