tony-fr-si
This question is for the Norton Users. My daughter's computer, Windows XP/SP2 with 1.5 GBs RAM and 160 GBs on the hard drive, is using an ISP named NETZERO. Upon clicking the connect button on the ISP Startup window - it dials out to their server and replys; connection completed then opens the Internet Explorer window. At this point, you are ready to begin surfing.PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: We recently installed Norton Internet Security 2005. Now, when I click the connect button on the ISP Startup window - it dials out to their server, reply connection is complete. The problem is that it does not open the IE window. It drops the connection and redials again. It repeats this cycle over and over. INTERIM SOLUTION: What I did was close windows firewall, and restarted the computer. This seems to work now.CONCERNS: Norton only works if windows firewall is closed. Is this a cause for concern?Thxs for the feedback.Tony
scuzzman
The Windows XP Firewall really doesn't do anything anyway - so it would be better to leave it off if you have an alternative firewall.
andsome
It sounds to me as though you were using Norton Personal Firewall, and Windows Firewall at the same time. As Scuzzman says the windows firewall is poor, and in any case it is not considered wise to use two firewalls at once. I think I am correct in believing that Internet Security 2005 includes Norton Personal Firewall.
r4may
You should only use one firewall. You must disable the Windows one if you run Norton Internet Security as it has both Anti Virus and a firewall which have problems if there are others running on the system. tony-fr-si
OK! Windows Firewall will be set to - OFF (Not Recomended) button. Nortons Personal Firewall will be the primary firewall.Thxs, again ...Tony
