borkborkbork
Ok, i think im in a fix...I just upgraded to Windows XP from windows 98. Everything went well in the install, but then when i opened up the start menu, there was nothing in the progrmas folder. The My documents folder either. I then checked the hard drive, and strangely, everythings still there. Also, Windows 98 no longer works.Does anyone know what to do?
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Welcome to the Windows Forum!I only did one upgrade from Windows 98 to XP, and I had exactly the same result as you had. After that I did only clean installs of XP.There are many guides on the Internet how to upgrade from 9x to XP, but I ever really read any of them fully.I cannot help you with your situation, but there are many experienced people around here. So help and advice may come soon. One question: did you take a backup of your Windows 98 system before (or during) the upgrade?
borkborkbork
Umm...oopsI was going to back it up and it said estimated time 10 hours. I took that as 5, which was still too long so i decided to skip that part...big mistake i guess...Is there anything else i can do?
Cpt James T. Kirk
do you have the 98 os cd? if so then wipe the hd, reformat and with xp disk in cd drive it will ask you to insert 98 ,95 ,2000 , etc.. cd as a check to make sure you are upgrading and then swap the 98 for the xp disk and it should install a clean xp os.
