Skinner
Got a brand new computer, no operating system, how do I get it to recognize the hard drive? Is there a utility to convert to FAT32?
trackrat
Go into the Bios ( it should tell you at the first screen how to enter the bios, ie press F1 or F2 etc) then alter the first boot to CR or DVD, whichever you have then press F10 to exit and save the changes, put your XP CD in and away you go.Part way through the instillation you will be given the option to format the hard drive to FAT 32 or NTFS. Scarecrow Man
There is a user guide on converting to NTFS here but you cannot go from NTFS back to FAT, unless you format. To do this, you must use a windows 98 boot disk, which you can get form http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and use the fdisk utility to delete and create a new partition. Skinner
Thanks a lot, chaps. I managed to stumble upon a Windows 98 disc and slapped it in, thereby solving my problem and enabling access to loftier facilities.
