jamit50
I know all the troubles associated with attachments but whwn I receive one that is safe I would like to see it. I found that the .eml extention on the folder options was empty. I reset it to open using Outlook Express. I found this on my wifes laptop. (they can be opened in there). The progress now shows a window to open the attachment, but it seems that it just goes away. The window never opens. What am I doing wrong? andsome
In Outlook Express, Tools/ Options/Security. Untick the box which says "do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentailly be a virus."
jamit50
That option is not selected. I have matched all optiond that I know of with my wifes laptop and they are the same.

expertec
If you get an email with an attachment, click "Forward" and you should be able to access it. :)
jamit50
That does not work. I get the same thing a window to click open and then nothing.
djohn
This is the most secure way of having your settings in IE6. When you receive an email with an attachment it will say so across the top of the window with the wording that the attachment has been blocked, clicking on the heading will give you the option to open the attachment.Apart from the settings as shown in my screen shot, are you using a firewall, and have you set it up to allow attachments through? jamit50
DjohnI made sure the settings were the same as you suggested. I get the window asking me to open the attachment but I get the same results. It seems to me that after clicking on the open button it tries to open but it quits instead. I even tried the SP2 repair link from microsoft but all I get there is my updates are current.
jamit50
I have some good news. It cost a little money but it was worth it. It seems that if there is another email program that uses .eml as an extention outlook express gets confused. Microsoft support had me enter msimn /reg in the run window and it fixed my problem. If you remember on the folder options the eml extention was empty. I had to add the open command using outlook express. I hope this will help anyone who runs into the problem. Thanks for all your time and thoughts on this subject.
