djohn
To give you some Idea of loading speed for XP. I have a AMD 1800xp CPU 2x80 Gb drives - 2 printers - scanner - camera -Broadband modem and a few other items, several large applications including Office 2003.From pressing the on button on the front of the tower unit all this has to be recognised by my PC, but I'm at a working desktop in 29 seconds, able to open and use office, 8 seconds later my USB modem is steadied and ready to log on to ISP.Does this give you some Idea as to what the speed of yours should be?If your machine is considerably slower than this, it needs to be checked over to find the cause. Has it been like this from the start or is it just recently you've noticed a slow down? Have you run a defrag of the drive and a full check for virus infection? Please post back with what you have tried so far, how long it takes to load from first starting, and what anti-virus, spyware protection your using. Do you use a firewall, if so which one please? :)
