Grooming

It would seem, from the evidence presented in courts up and down the world, that it is possible for the unscrupulous adult, bent on achieving his/her goal, to "Groom" a child, by the use of a video monitor and suggestion, without the child knowing this was being done. I suppose there would be few who would deny this, in the light of paedophilic occurrences. As a result of these occurrences laws have been passed to prevent "Grooming" taking place.

There is, however, another side to this grooming that affects virtually all children, certainly in the Western world. This is the grooming that comes out of the video monitor as "Yoof TV", advertising aimed at children, violent TV content, violent video games, the use and glorification of bad behaviour and language in all TV drama, the constant repetition of "kids rights" etc. etc. The strange thing is that all this is found to be perfectly acceptable to those who are shaping and controlling the Nanny State, and yet these things, above all, are responsible for more misery and harm, to far far more children, than the paedophilic abomination.

Should something not be done about it?

Kids TV today seems to be mainly noisy yobs, throwing things at each other, belching, and generally making prats of themselves. This is coupled with loud incomprehensible so called music.

The worst "groomers" to my mind are those from the marketing departments of multi-national companies who brainwash children into a toxic diet of rubbish food and caffeine/sugar laden fizzy drinks. These people are poisoning our offspring to produce a generation of grossly obese, hyperactive beings who, even now, but moreso in a few years time, will be filling our doctors surgeries and hospitals suffering from perfectly preventable and avoidable diseases. These may range from simple obesity to premature osteoarthritis, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and lethargy simply resulting from the effort expended from carrying all the excess weight around. This last is particularly insidious as the inactivity (couch potato syndrome) tends to produce depression and boredom which then induces "comfort eating" and the whole situation spirals. We have the ludicrous situation in the USA now where parents are taking legal action against the burger purveyors for inducing obesity and chronic illness in their children - do they not consider they have some responsiblility themselves to look after their child's welfare?

Add to this the marketing departments of the multinational "sports clothing" manufacturers who make it de rigeur for all of our youngsters to wear excessively priced, slave labour produced, rubbish clothing and shoes merely because it has a desirable label attached.

And I've not even started on the Peruvian snowman yet.

I couldn't agree more pops. I do think however that the parents must bear an equal portion of the blame. Many have never heard of the word NO. My granddaughter, ten years old soon, would not touch a MacDonald's so called meal with a barge pole. Not only because of the crap used in producing it, but also because of the South American rain forest which has been destroyed, to make short term profit from cheaply raising cattle for this trade. She has been raised to appreciate everything that is bought for her, and would do anyone a good turn, and nobody a bad one. I despair at all the hyperactive morons running the streets causing mayhem.
