Error 53?

I have a network with 3 pcs all running XP Pro. 1 is wired to a Sonicwall router, the other 2 go through a switch then to the router. I have a printer installed on one, and have allowed the printer to be shared. Well, on the network, I cannot see any of the other pcs nor can I see the printer on the others. What needs to be done???

I have not set up a work group, would this possibly take care of the issue???

Even when running netview I cannot view the other pcs as well.

If it's not a Domain, then Yes you probably need to set up a workgroup.

Yes, like SM said, you'll need a workgroup. A workgroup is like an identifier for networks and only the computers on the same Workgroup (or Domain for that matter) can communicate and share resources.

Hmm, tried the work group thing and still got an Error 53.

All the cabling goes from the pc, to the wall, to router.

Im pretty sure I got the router set up correctly.

As far as setting up a workgroup, that is just going to control panel->system-->computer name

Then entering the name of what you want your workgroup to be called right???

Yes. Just make sure all computers are on the same workgroup, have the same subnet mask, and are on the same subnet.

Also -- the computer name is the computer's identification on the network. To change the workgroup name, right-click "My Computer", go to the "Network Identification" tab, and change the workgroup (this is usually all CAPS, and must be the same for all Pc's on the network -- the computer name on the other hand, must be unique for each PC).

Once this is set up, clikc "My Network Places" and "View entire network". Click "Microsoft Windows Network", then the icon representing your workgroup. Keep in mind this as well -- to share files, filesharing must be enabled on a drive or directory. Also, to share your printer, on each PC the drivers must be installed, and the printer shared.
