Hi, I'm currently in a Technical Writing class and I decided to do a report on network security. I need a primary source for this and decided that I would poll you fine people on your prefrences in security related software to get said primary source.

1. What webserver would you consider to be the most secure, and which one do you use at home or work?

5. Finaly, if you could list any other security related programs that you like to use and could be pertinant to my report, I would greatly appreciate it.

1: I don't use any webserver exactly, but I would think any Apache/Linux one would be the best.

2: Firefox for me! (No ActiveX, woo!)

3: All of these. No virus scanner can be 100% effective, each will find things the other won't (but you shouldn't have two running at the same time though!). Currently use both McAfee and AVG at home.

4: Linux, definitely. I use XP Pro and Mandrake 10 dual-boot.

5: Ad-Aware, and Spybot Search and Destroy. Two free and very good anti-spyware scanners.

Spywareblaster, prevents most spyware from ever being installed.

Spywareguard, real time protection against spyware installation.

IE/SPYAD, adds thousands of sites to the IE restricted list, to prevent them installing anything to your computer.

How's that for a start?

1) Don't know.

2)Firefox.

3)I currently use AVG. As per expertec, no virus scanner is 100% effective, so as long as you keep you're definitions as up to date as possible, they're all on par with regards to providing virus protection.

4)I would consider Linux the most secure(especially a Live CD distro). I use Windows XP SP2.

5)AdAware SE, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spywareblaster and ZoneAlarm(firewall).

Most secure? DOS.

As for the one I use, Windows XP (SP2) and Windows 2k (SP4) Linux (Knoppix, Linspire, Fedora Core)

All of these. No virus scanner can be 100% effective, each will find things the other won't (but you shouldn't have two running at the same time though!). Currently use both McAfee and AVG at home.

What you can do is have one on your PC, and also use an online scanner such as Trend Micro's Housecall or Panda ActiveScan. :)

As for question 5, the same as above. I run Slackware Linux on my main PC, and I have a Win2K box because I need Visual Basic for a class. On my Linux box I don't use antivirus (virii are not nearly as much a threat in Linux) and on my Windows box I use AVG.

Well

Apache Is Gr8 Webserver.

Very Less Flaws in that

if there are some thats very hard to exploit.

Secondly firefox is gr8 but some compatibility problems with plugins.

So i prefer in normal envionment with IE6 it do have lot of flaws

Over security issues Firefox is best.

and Rest Is all ones choice.

virus scanner i like ZoneAlarm pro+

Microsoft Antispyware

Win 2000 is robust

Linux Redhat 9

No comparance of seucirty with FreeBSd
