XP Pro Admin question

Recommended Posts

When I recently re-installed XP Pro, I initially set up the Admin account during installation. Afterwards, I set up all of the user profiles on the system. Now when the computer is booted up, the only logons that appear are the three users profiles I set up, but not the original Admin account. But when looking at the "All Users" directory, there is a folder for the Admin account. How do I find the login for the Admin account? Is there some secret back door I have to go through to get to it? Why doesn't it show up in the user accounts?

Administrator is a locked account used for administration purposes only. You can log onto the Administrator account by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del twice, and typing in Administrator and the password. *Administrator cannot have a blank password.

If you would like a useable admin account, I suggest making a user with admin privilages, not using the Administrator account as a daily account.

Would it make sense to have all users set up with limited accounts in the power user group, and then have the Admin account seperate? My wife & I are set up as Administrators, and my son has a limited account, but is in the power user group so he can install updates to IE such as Shockwave plug-ins and such. But he is unable to modify the OS.

If all you really want is Administrator on the regular login screen, then you can download the TweakUI Powertoy and then (once you have it installed) click the Logon option on the left side. Then on the right it will give you options about who you want to be shown on the login screen. Administrator is an option. Just put a check beside it and your good to go.

I tried to change all accounts to limited accounts and add them to the power user group. But I was unable to change mine, the limited option was grayed out. Could that be because I was the one to install XP initially? Is there any way to activate that option from the Admin account?
