file recovering

hello

i accidently overwritten one file by another with the same name. is is any way to recover the first file ? i didn't make a copy of the file, but since this a word document, may be word created the copy ?

i would like to avoid to retype 20 pages of the document...

Not that I know of... at least not without running specialist recovery software like this http://www.executive.com/undelete/undelete.asp

But I think you will find that it needs to be running and tracking your changes before you can use it.

Perhaps someone else may have some ideas for you

I've had pretty good luck with this one: http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/download.htm

It's free, works good, etc. I used it for deleted file--not sure how it would work on overwritten file. Never know until you try. Don't complicate matters further though; it must be installed on a different hard drive or partition other than the one you are trying to recover your file from.

Failing that this one is too big for a floppy, but if you do a search you should be able to find one that does.
