Guest Nellie2
Ooooh......yes.......I am so tempted, but I know what to do with W98 when it goes wrong, most of the time anyway. It may be temperamental but it is a temperament that I can deal with. And don't tell me nothing goes wrong with XP........I have been following Madboy's tales of woe with great interest!!!

Guest Nellie2
Might just sit back and wait for Longhorn now though........how long do you think that will be?
Guest ellas
I would not be surprised if m/soft said longhorn can not be upgraded from 98 as they did with xp and 95,thats just a guess by the way :D
Guest Nellie2
wouldn't upgrade anyway........would do a fresh install....wouldn't upgrade to xp, if I did get it, it would have to be a fresh install.
Guest ellas
well you can do that from a upgrade disc no point paying full whack.
Tankus
I would not be surprised if m/soft said longhorn can not be upgraded from 98 as they did with xp and 95,thats just a guess by the wayellas is getting cynical in his old age.....probably right though...........................I'm ageeing to much with ellas these days ....it must be my medication...........! Guest Nellie2
I can't see the point of having one o/s sitting on top of another though. If I do take the plunge then I would want it to be a complete upgrade so to speak and I would be prepared to pay the extra to have my own full copy........having said that I suppose it comes down to how much extra.......but I would certainly seriously consider it.We seem to have gotten way off your topic by the way but it is an interesting thread all the same!! :)
Craig
i think Longhorn will become available late 2005 nel, you have a long wait!
Guest Nellie2
Oooh......that long!! Don't think I'm that patient.
Prince of Calcutta
still off topic ;)nellie you should try xp upgrade..its the same as the full version only it asks you proof that you have an existing version of windows before installing..which means you have to insert your windows 98 cd or whatever you have before it continues installing..you can perform a clean install using a upgrade disc
Guest Nellie2
Sometimes I wonder that they ever let me out on my own!!!!So, you are saying that with an XP upgrade, I would not be installing XP over the top of w98..... I just have to show XP that I have it!!!
Craig
You can do both with the XP upgrade disc. You can either upgrade over the top of your current Operating System,orYou can insert the Win XP disc when you turn on your PC, and preform a full format and at some point it will ask you to pop in your Win 98 CD just to verify you had a previous version.I do have a spare 120 day eval copy of Win XP Pro that i havent used. If you wish i could send that to you so you can try it out. Once the trial runs out i think you will have no option but to format your drive, at which point you would have decided if you want XP or 98!Let me know if you want the CD.Craig. Prince of Calcutta
the above applies to both the full version as well as the upgrade version.both allow you can install xp on top of windows 98..this way you keep all the settings that you used under windows 98 or you can format and install it fresh.the only difference really between upgrade and full version is that the upgrade version asks you to show that you have an earlier o/s such as windows 98 , me etc etc ...so since you have a windows 98 cd go with the upgrade version...
