Windows Updates ! Which Ones To . . . . .

Hey Guys

i have had some serious problems recently with my PC, after trying some things, i could not fix my PC. I decided to do a fresh reinstal. What I need to know is which Windows Updates i should stay away from, the reason being is because i hear that there are some new secrity updates that can really destroy your system.

if someone can give me a few suggestions, advice or direct me to a site or a someone that can help with this, i would much appreciate it.

I recommend that you install all updates. I have never heard of security or other updates "destroying" a system.

The only thing that I know of is installing XP-SP2 on a virus or spyware infested system; that can have disastrous consequences. But since you just did a fresh install, you shouldn't need to worry.

As pwillener said, a security update will never "destroy" your system, unless it has been taken over by viruses and spyware, in which case, it is fixing it without fixing it properly causing errors to happen.

The only thing I suggest not updating is Hardware. Hardware updates should be downloaded from a manufacturer directly, for example, use ATI Driver Page instead of downloading video drives from Windows Update. Software (Optional) is as the title says, Optional. Unless you are asked to download these chances are you do not need them.

Download ALL Security and Critical Updates. No exceptions.

I fully agree with what's been said.

The only time that Windows updates give problems is when security and critical updates are installed in infested/infected systems - I've had to look at a number of machines where this has been a problem.

Ensure that you really do a fresh install and do not install over the top of your existing setup.
