BJC 3000

Recommended Posts

My BJC 3000 has cried "enough" because, according to the flashing orange light code, my waste ink tank is full. The manual says get a service engineer in to empty it (this conjured up visions of a man appearing with a gulley empting wagon, complete with elephants trunk). The cost of this operation will be more than the cost of a new printer, so I have had the top off the thing and can see a portion that is probably "it", but I can see no tank. Is there the voice of experience with earshot please? Or should I just join the "disposable" world.

Thanks, TR. It never ceases to amaze me just how much knowledge and information resides on this site.

I wish I had posted my query before partially stripping down my printer. If I can put it back together I shall try the suggestion on your recommended site. It all appears dispicably deceitful on the part of Canon.

It's not only Canon that do this. Epson and Xerox do it and most likely others will if they don't already.

The galling thing about the whole thing is that the message comes up not as the actual state of the ink sump but some obscure signal that thinks it should be full - much like the level indicators for ink cartridges. These show an estimate based on what the printer thinks you have printed, not the actual usage.

This is shown by Jettec brand compatibles which, when the printer states they are empty, can be coaxed into giving 30% more use by some switching fiddle on the printer:

When your cartridge registers 'empty' in the status monitor 1. Cancel print job. 2. Switch off printer. 3. Wait 10 seconds and switch printer on again. 4. When asked if you want to continue using the installed ink cartridges, please click 'yes'. Your printer monitor will now register 30% extra

Bottom of the list probably - below the astronomical prices charged for ink cartridges which was supposed to be looked.

This whole ink/printer business stinks. As well as high prices there are now restrictions placed by some manufacturers on time (cartridge doesn't work after a certain date has passed) and country (a cartridge bought in the USA doesn't work in a UK printer - ostensibly the same model).

Well...I have managed to get all the bits back in and the top on, apparently in the right places. I had taken out the little platform that the wiper pads sit on and also their connecting drain tubes. It's still a mystery where the drain tubes go, despite having fixed then back to their original spigots. The site recommended gave the correct button pushing sequence to reset something (eprom?) and now it works as it should with the normal cartridge, but the photo cartridge will only produce a magenta image. Looks like a dried out job, but, oddly, that was in use when the original problem emerged last night.

I shall go and soak it (gin?)
