Windows 2000 Abruptly restarts

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

Not sure if this is hardware or software problem :Shocked Confused:

My system refuses to boot first time, everytime. It restarts atleast 4 to 5 times before login screen appears. I see preparing network setting, Applying computer settings and just before the login diablog screen appears, it restarts

Can anybody tell why this happens? And hot solve this...

Regards,

Maverick

Hello and welcome to Neo Planet.

I've a suspicion that your problem is due to a failing hard drive.

Have a look in the Event Viewer to see what is happening at Startup.

In case you don't know, Event Viewer can be accessed by RIGHT clicking My Computer, click on Manage and then Event Viewer.

Look for highlighted (yellow or red marked) messages in each of the categories listed.

Hello and welcome to Neo Planet.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for replying late.

I dont think that would be an possibility because I have dual boot configured in the same hdd. Linux works fine. Infact both worked properly few days back.

Have a look in the Event Viewer to see what is happening at Startup.

Yes! I saw a error there but could not figure out what it was. The event id is 7026 and the message is

"The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
giveio "

I can't help you with your problem sorry :(

Regarding your Neo newbie status, this is related to the number of posts made and as you have only made 2 posts (so far) that's why you are shown as a newbie!

As your post count rises so does your status!

For example:

Neo General, Neo Dedicated and Neo Super Star

My secondary hard drive packed up on me yesterday. I thought that it was the main drive as the computer would not boot up. Luckily we now have a mobile technician living locally, and he found that it was my Photo storage drive that had packed up and was stopping the boot up. It has now been replaced and all is well.

This is the second occasion that "giveio" has come up recently.

Have a look at my reply here http://forums.neoplanet.co.uk/index.php?sh...19858&hl=giveio

Regarding your comment "I am not new to Windows", well, fair enough but I had no way of knowing your experience and I put the suggestion there to be helpful, just in case you were, in fact, a "newbie" to Windows. I'm sorry you feel affronted.

What's the source of the 7026 Error?

In searching the Internet, it sounds like a problem with a driver. Determining which driver would require some troubleshooting on your end. Searching for "giveio" on Google brought up some results that indicated people had downloaded some trial software and the trial period had expired. Any changes to your system software or hardware wise recently? Any problems when using any particular devices?

I did a google search for giveio. I got the same results. You are right, I had installed a real player trial version software some time back and that might have expired now. But, will that not allow my system to boot?

I have one more doubt!!! As expressed earller, I have configured my system for dual boot (windows2000 & Linux) on a single 80Gb SCSI hard drive. Seeing andsome's response, posted on 11th, I feel that windows 2000 is having problem in mounting linux partitions. What do you guys think...
