expertec
Any more info on when it does this would be helpful... when it's connected to mains? Battery? :)
masefield
It mainly happens when connected to the mains - can't give any info if it occurs with battery.
expertec
Two thoughts now...Can you try it with another power supply? Can you check the temperatures, it might be shutting itself down to prevent overheating.
masefield
Thanks for info - I will try another power supply. Is there any way I can check accurately the temperature other than feeling the case. Must say it appears to get a bit warm/hot on occasions and it has also been used during the heat of last week which might be the logical solution if it is a temperature issue. expertec
A program such as Everest should be able to tell you the temps: http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.php?pid=1&lang=en
korgg
If you are lucky enough, Everest may give you a hint on the temperature...But most laptops (especially those older than Centrino tehnology) do not have that monitoring chip....So.. Does it heat a lot ? The coolers run continously ? I have seen laptops that had big problems with heating... A cleaning did wonders...It is switching off or it just freezes ? Scarecrow Man
Could also be humidity.I had a keyboard die this week from humidity here...
CurlyWhirly
Could also be humidity.I had a keyboard die this week from humidity here...That's funny as I always thought that keyboard electronics were sealed so as not to be affected by humidity, etc? A cleaning did wonders...It is switching off or it just freezes ?It does seem to get quite hot - fan seems to run for longish periods. Went to usual repairer could not find anything immediately obvious. its on now however the mains plug into laptop seems a bit loose. It stayed on for a short period a little while ago but then it again switched itself off. Would appreciate any further comments ideas. korgg
So what kind of freeze is it ? Like a normal shutdown ? or just goes off in a blink ? Normal shutdown may be from a heating problem or a depleted battery...Just freezeing and going blank may indicate a hardware problem...And what't the word on Everest ? Did it get any reading ? masefield
When it shuts down the screen just goes black and then it just clicks off - have not yet tried the Everest program. If it stays any longer might just give it a go.

expertec
What CPU is it?
masefield
What CPU is it?The CPU type is a Mobile Intel Celeron 2000 Mhz (20 x 100)
korgg
Laptop or not, 65C on a cpu is way too much...So my money are on the heating problem...You should ask someone who worked with laptops to clean your cpu radiator and cooler and replace the thermal paste... Acted up during high humidity. would press buttons automatically at will, and nothing was stuck down.I agree with korgg, 65 is high.. make sure to not leave it on all the time, and dont rest it on your lap for too long.
