Guest moon Posted May 8, 2003 Report Share Posted May 8, 2003 'My' little village is currently debating whether to try to block the erection of thirteen 100m high wind turbines.Whereas I'm all for renewable energy the prospect of having them visible from all over the area, conservation sites, listed buildings etc. is cooling my ardour somewhat. The inland wind speed here doesn't compare with that on the nearby coast but the MOD won't give up any land for them Seems to me we're just getting a partially efficient eyesore. Power producing with coal or gas does cause polution, but wind power produces noise and visual polution on a grand scale. When we visited the USA and drove accross the Mojave desert, there was one area where there were several square miles covered in Wind turbines. It totally spoiled the area. Tankus Posted May 8, 2003 Report Share Posted May 8, 2003 Build them out in the North sea..............Some big "farms" in central Spain, they build them in a line along south facing arrettes...well away from population.When all on going at full tilt , you may be surprised at how much noise that they make.....Whereabouts do you live Moon?There is a farm above Margam overlooking Port Talbot steel works(South Wales),good place as the wind in funnelled up the Severn estuary.......I suppose the area is fairly industrial , so it does not subtract as much .Thinking about it, the government could kill two birds with one stone, The north sea off shore farm would also create a commercially unfishable sanctuary, giving the Cod a place to reproduce unitterupted.....
