JesseJ1935
I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, if not then my apologies.I am on AOL Broadband Gold and using the BT Voyager 105 Modem as supplied. Also XP Home with SP2.Every so often, sometimes once or twice a day, when I start up I get the message 'USB Device not recognised'.Unplugging the USB cable then connecting it again usually brings it back to the land of the living but, very occassionally, the computer switches itself off. When it does that I have to switch off at the main switch, a surge protector, wait half a minute or so then switch back on again to get things up and running again.I have had this problem for some time, ever since going on Broadband in fact. AOL have been no help though they did replace the modem but that did not solve anything. Drivers have been updated both for the modem and USB Enhanced Controller, nothing has changed this behaviour.Any ideas please as I don't know what else to try other than going out and buying a different modemI should, perhaps add, that the computer is a self build job, the motherboard being an ASUS A7V8X-MX with an Athlon +2200XP. JesseJ1935
I should have added that this usually, but not always, happens when I start up after hibernation.
-pops-
You are obviously into messing about inside you computer so, do you have a USB PCI card that you could put into your machine?I found with one ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe board that the installed USB ports objected to having any power drawn from them at startup whereas a separate USB card was OK. I believe the Voyager modem is not self powered so it may be worth a try plugging the modem into a separate (new) USB connection.
JesseJ1935
Thank you for your reply. The quick and easy answer to your question is no, I have just been using the USB ports that are part of the motherboard. I must admit I have susspected them for more reasons than just the modem, for example, I had a lot of trouble with a Lexmark printer that could only connect to USB but it worked perfectly on another computer.Actually I have posted this problem on other forums but nobody even replied. Looks like I'll have to go shopping. Thanks again.
