jtdt Posted September 3, 2005 Report Share Posted September 3, 2005 I purchased a Belkin Wireless Pre- N Router and wired it to my pc as per the cd and instruction book. I have Netcomm NB1300 plus 4 Modem and am running XP SP2. Anyway, I cannot get the Router to access the internet. I also disconnected the router and just connected the modem as previous with no problems. Would anybody know what I can do or what settings I should change to enable the router to work? djohn Posted September 3, 2005 Report Share Posted September 3, 2005 Hello jtdt, I'm not very familiar with separate modems/routers, but I have just downloaded the manual for your router to check the correct method of setting up.Their are 2 methods, 1 is via the router, but the recommended one is via the modem.Close down all running programs and have your modem connected to your PC as normal, turn off any software firewall and any Internet connection wizard that may appear on screen.Insert the "easy set-up" CD. The welcome screen will appear, [Make sure the router is NOT connected at this time.]Click next and the software will examine your PC and gather information required to connect your router to the Internet. When it has finished doing this, click next to continue.The wizard will find your network card and show it on screen, if you have more than one, select the correct one by highlighting it and click next. This next screen will walk you through the correct method of connecting your modem and router.Sec 2.1 instructs you to locate the cable between your modem and networking port on your computer. Unplug this cable and connect it to the GREEN port on your router, click next to continue.Now plug one end of the BLUE cable to anyone of the BLUE ports on your router. Plug the other end into the network port of your PC. Click next to continue.Connect the power cable into the GREY port of your router and into a power supply socket, click next to continue. Check the correct lights are on as indicated in your manual then click next to continue. Tap in your username and password, click next to continue.The wizard will now collect and transfer all the configuration information to the router. [This will take about 1 minute] then it will reboot by itself and start to check for an Internet connection, this may take some time on the first attempt, but please be patient and wait for the wizard to tell you that you have finished.The connected light on the front of the router will now be solid green to confirm you have an Internet connection. That's it your finished and connected to the Internet.I've not actualy tried this myself, just read the manual, please let us know how you get on and we will try to help you some more if the above does not cure the problem. dadyassa Posted September 4, 2005 Report Share Posted September 4, 2005 My router is plugged into the phone line and is on 24/7, my PC is plugged into the router, there is also connections for 3 more PC`s on the router.Why do you also need a modem ? I take it from your post that your now up and running, if so that's good news. :)The reason jtdt is using a modem and router is because not all routers have modems in them. If buying new, then usually best to go for a modem/router combined, if you already have a modem and especially if its an expensive one, then you can just buy a router to go with it. The signal is always on and shares my normal phone line.I have ordered a new lap top and cannot wait to set up a wireless network. I wouldn't mind if it was a couple of months, but a few days or a week or two annoys me. :(When I was in UK I bought a handbag for my wife in Debenhams for her birthday, a few days after her birthday they were half price, so i tipped all the stuff out of it and took it back for a refund, I said she didn`t like it. Got me refund, went back to the counter and got another one the same for half price and put the change in the bag. ;) I like these big stores.
