Alan2273
My nephew has just brought a webcam and a headphone/microphone combination from PC World. The webcam works OK and the headphones are allright but the microphone will not work. There was no software with the headphone/microphone combo. It just said plug in the green & pink connections into the equivalant coloured holes and it will work from 98SE upwards. He has Realtek 97 audio (Onboard), I have been through checking all the settings and they are OK.I asked him to try using the XP recorder and that would not work, so I told him to disconnect the green jack and plug his speakers in the tap the microphone and sound will come out the speakers, but nothing happened.I suspect a faulty microphone unless anyone can tell me another way to test if the microphone is OK. nellie2
Is there a Sound Effect Manager or something similar in control panel? Your nephew might have to tweak a few settings.
Craig
MSN Messenger has a built in Audio and Video setup application, so it may be worth while trying that.
Alan2273
Thanks for your answers, apparently the microphone does work, it is the port on the motherboard that is at fault.
r4may
Realtek 97 audio (Onboard) usualy has two inputs one for microphone and another for Line input. you could try the line input. Also See if the realtek drivers detect the mike in the Sound recorder setupIt is normally possable to set the inputs to output for for 5-1 / 7-1 surround sound so make sure it is set for just two speakers and two inputs.Edit my spelling and add another comment.
