CD Drive causes computer to freeze

Recommended Posts

Morning all,

I'll be off out shortly, and I won't be back till this evening, so you have a whole day to puzzle over this :D

Using the CD drive on a certain computer causes it to freeze.

If you play a music CD in the drive, it will freeze up the whole computer and a reset is needed. Using a data CD appeared to be OK, but upon removing the disc, the computer became very jerky and unresponsive, freezing entirely for several seconds at a time.

System spec is Sempron 2400, 512MB RAM, 40GB HDD, 128MB Graphics card. CD drive is an Optorite (I think) CD-RW, it is the only optical drive in the system. (Computer is wirelessly connected to the network).

If you can think of any reasons why it's doing this, let me know!

Thanks. :)
