djohn Posted December 1, 2005 Report Share Posted December 1, 2005 Have I misunderstood this topic? 98se is self booting and once you have fromated the drive all you do is make your optical drive the first boot drive, [From BIOS] insert the disk and reboot. andsome Posted December 2, 2005 Author Report Share Posted December 2, 2005 Even when W98 was eventually installed, the machine still played up. Part way through installing his BB modem, it asked for the Windows CD to be reinserted, but would NOT release the modem CD. When we aborted the modem installation the CD was then released, and then we had a corrupted file report. We gave up in the end, and a local expert has taken the damned thing away. andsome Posted December 13, 2005 Author Report Share Posted December 13, 2005 His CD drive was as we thought on the blink. It seems OK now that this has been replaced.
