Pit Stop forum

Is it just a coincidence, or has anyone else had the same experience? My spam mail has more than doubled since registering at Pit Stop forum. I now average over 20 a day. It does not bother me unduly, as 'Spam Pal' puts them all into a Spam Folder, and they can all be deleted with one click after a quick look to make sure that no genuine mail has slipped through.

I am not making accusations, just wanting to know if I am alone and if this is just a coincidence. Has my address been sold on????

Well, I can tell you it ain't coming from the Pit. We are very much against that sort of thing. We don't even require a real email address to register, and we don't ever sell any information about our members, or their email addresses. Real or otherwise. The Pit isn't about making money, it's about helping people. And you can't help anyone by spamming them.

Put your mind at rest, andsome. Create an email address and reregister at the Pit with it, keeping it hidden from members. It won't collect a thang. :)

Glad you addressed that statement Ax. I was searching at the Pit to see if there was an "official" response somewhere. ( I thought someone asked about that before & perhaps Dave replied ? ) You summed it up quite nicely though ... ;)

*m, that makes it sound like it could be true ... :fish:

Seriously, I am far from paranoid, I am just curious as to why my spam has so dramatically increased. As I said it is not a problem as Spam Pal does a good job.

I haven't noticed any difference at all.

Andsome - rack your brains - have you been on a dodgy site? I did that once and got loads of spam. Like those surveys that used to be in the post all the time - loads of junk mail after filling them in. :(

I have had no increase in spam what so ever since registering at PCpitstop. Anyway, Ax has given you his assurance on that matter....it must be something else andsome!

I accept all assurances given. I just wish that these spammers would understand that I don't need Viagra (yet), I don't want to meet their sexy ladies, I don't want my doo dah made longer or firmer, I don't want a loan, I don't want to loose weight, ( well that is a little white lie, but is is coming off now anyway), I don't want anti depressants, I don't want prescription drugs without a prescription.

Does anyone ever answer these damned messages??????

The legendary 'SpamMan' did. Rumour tells of a guy who can do a three minute mile with four virgins on each arm and a two-foot plonker. :D His mortgage was pretty low too. :D

Well, as an Admin there, I can assure you that the only Spam you will ever get from the Pit will be this...

spam.gif

And you can't even eat it. Not that you would want to anyway...

Actually, ask most anyone who has ever posted anything inappropriate on the Pit how quickly we're on it. We have banned people for spamming the forum, because our members find it annoying. We ask someone to stop doing something a couple times (nicely) and if they don't, then it's "Adios, Amigo..." In our collective beliefs, Spam is almost as bad a Spyware, because it's just as much unwanted as Spam.

Have you by any chance signed up for TV listings from the History Channel? I made that mistake once, and I got so much Spam and porn ads that I had to remove myself from the list. After which all that stopped almost immediately... (Yes, you read that right. Porn ads from the History Channel...)

I know this already northamuk.

No no a thousand times no. I have never signed up for anything except membership of forums. I have also signed with two good quality wine merchants. I am extremely puzzled as to why this kind of thing goes on. Seriously just how much response do they actually get? Surely people have wised up by now? Anyway I have the assurances from our friends at the pit Stop, so the problem does not lie there. I may as well close this now
