why my mouse pointer has exclamation point when i click on a link?

when i click on a link in my web broswer, it's suppose to pop up a new broswer , but a green exclamation point shows below the mouse pointer. it doesn't pop a new broswer

i try right click a link and open a new broswer, it doesn't work

i searched i google and can't find solution, anyone know how to fix this??

hi. i am using laptop, M360, 1.3g 256MB, web broswer verions 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.xxxxx

windows xp home edition.

i think the problem occured after i do critical update from officical microsoft website.

my friend's computer had a same problem years ago, but i forgot how to fix it now.

i couldn't find solution on the internet.

Right... SP2... it includes an update for IE which is a built in pop-up blocker, possibly that's what your trouble is. Have a look in Tools > Internet Options, and see if you can find the settings for blocking or unblocking popups.

It's a long time since I used Internet Explorer, and I don't have SP2 installed, so I can't give you exact instructions, sorry about that. :wink:

i find out the problem. ya. it's pop up blocker, but it's not the sp update

it's called "internet assistant" it's located on my IE bar and its file directory located in C:\program file\3721

i try to removed internet assistance, but it said error access DLL.

internet assistance is extra add-on from my other programs. ><

do you know any program that can "force" to uninstall it???

It's best not to just go in and delete files from any directory, unless you are 100% sure what the file is.

If you are concerned about spyware or viruses, post a HijackThis log.

I'm always careful about any software that calls itself and "assistant". All too often they are exactly the opposite of that and are, in fact, something that you would rather not have.

Although Goooooogle seems to state that internet assistant is legitimate software, I have doubts and suggest, like Scarecrowman says, that you post a HiJack This log. We have several Malware experts here and they will be able to analyse the results and give advice.
