I wondered where my reply had gone and now I know it was not just a 'senior moment'.

My original comment, for what it was worth, was that I had taken the back off a cassette recorder/player to find out the cause of the "wowwing" and, as expected, the little rubber belt that causes all the rotary motion was tired and stretched. All the rest of the really technical stuff thus being rendered redundant. Since posting this comment I found a replacement (I think) on Maplins web site. It arrived this morning but I have not yet tested it. The belt is 46mm diam with a square cross section of about 1.5mm. Cost ....£1.99 ...plus £2.13pp.
