REmote desktop problem

Recommended Posts

I'm having trouble with remote desktop to my pc at work. Until recently I've been able to leave my computer at work logged in with programs running then when at home I've been able to use remote desktop to connect to the computer and check on how things are going.

Recently this is no longer working, if I leave my computer at work logged in I get following error message:

"The client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections. It is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection. Please try your connection again later. If the problem continues to occur, contact your administrator."

This suggests something isn't set up right or there's a network problem. However if I log out of my computer at work I can log in to it through remote desktop.

Any ideas what could cause this?

I think a bit more info would help our specialists Neilw. Such as What are the PC's that are involved, What software is involved, What sort of connections are being used. If you could post some of this it may help them to make suggestions.

I am expericening the same problem but from work to home. I am using windows XP Professional 64bit edition at home, and XP 32bit at work. I have done this before with no problem in the pass with the 32 bit version. Port is enabled, TS web is on in add/remove components, and ISS is turned on. I'm stuck :( thank you for your time on this matter.

A google search for the error message returns this - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...Ben-us%3B555382

Another user with the same problem responds "I enabled ActiveX and was able to connect to the server desktop." Not sure what ActiveX has to do with this, but do either of you have ActiveX disabled?
