r4may Posted February 7, 2006 Report Share Posted February 7, 2006 I had Windows XP pro (32 bit) and Windows XP pro 64 eddition installed on my system as a Duel Boot.Worked fine except I had troube getting 64 bit device drivers for some of my hardware/peripherals like my scanner so I removed the 64bit edition as I do not to replace any hardwareor peripherals just for the sake of the drivers.Otherwise the 64bit edition worked fine and seemed to be a bit quicker. -pops- Posted February 7, 2006 Report Share Posted February 7, 2006 I have tried dual booting in the past with W95 + 98, W98 + ME, W98 + XP and each time I've found that I only use one (usually the more recent version) with the other just sitting there doing nothing more than taking up hard drive space.Are you sure you want to do this? Most developers in this situation would use VMware, but I have found that some compilers/linkers (Borland Delphi) don't work under VMware.Another reason is curiosity, together with too much free disk space and free time... Kevin Posted February 8, 2006 Report Share Posted February 8, 2006 What you are suggesting is absolutely possible, however as mentioned above, are you sure you want to do that? Decide which one is better (in my experience the 64bit) and just upgrade the 32bit. I have duel installed XP pro + ME, but i also found that i hardly used ME at all, and it just took up space. I also have two hard drives, and i loaded XP on the bigger one, and use the smaller one for space. It is very handy to have another hard drive, with no OS, to store date/programs/files, anything. If you want both hard drives to be loaded with XP, with a different bit, you can but i believe you will find that you will use one more than the other. Hope this helps.
