Outlook Email No Delivery Reports

I am running outlook (office 2003) - and recently I do not appear to be getting delivery reports when I send emails although the options are correctly selected. Has anybody got any ideas. Many thanks.

These days most postmasters turn off delivery reports, and most mail client users decline to send read receipts. In the early days of email, all these reports, including non-delivery reports, seemed useful. But in the days when more than 50% of all email traffic is spam, the use of these reports have become counter-productive.

I use msgtag click here for tracking emails. No effort is required on the part of the recipient.

I have the paid-for version which doesn't show on the recipient's email (the free version leaves a little advertising note at the bottom of the message).

Used it for years and find it very helpful - especially with people who claim they haven't received an email.

I also use mstag, but prefer the free version. This way they get a little message that tells them that the sender has been informed that they have opened the e-mail, so they know damned well that they cannot deny ever having received it. Very useful when making complaints to a company.

Thanks for the info - I had not previously heard of the programme. Have now downloaded the free version for an extended trial.

I don't see how. The response that you get is when an e-mail that you sent has been opened.

I've not noticed any excess spam on the accounts I use MSGTAG on - the spam comes in on an almost dead* account.

*dead from my point of view in that I don't use it very much - it's there now mainly to entertain the spammers.

Hence I shrugged and went ahead anyway pending firm advice that it is unwise. The fact that pops has used it for years is good enough for me.

If I remember correctly, I used it before the days of XP even.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it won't tag cc messages, only the main addressee. Not too much of a problem as I don't send those very often and those that I do want to tag, I send separately to the different recipients.

Great little program, and I don't get spam either. It was extremely useful recently when complaining to a company by e-mail. I know the EXACT time that each e-mail was opened.

Actually it doesn't give the slightest hint how it works. However I can imagine that it inserts an invisible image into the message that gets loaded when the message is opened. A method that spammers have used for many years.

Question: does it work with plain text messages?

Regarding spam, I never open spam messages so, no mgstag gets sent to the spammer.

I rarely open spam messages with the mail client, just some times when I'm lazy.

Not specifically tested it for such but, my son uses MSGTAG and almost all of his business emails are plain text. He has never commented on it not working.
