Kevin Posted March 7, 2006 Report Share Posted March 7, 2006 I have a friend who has a laptop with Windows XP on it, and a wireless card in it. They are trying to connect to a Wi-FI access point at Mcdonalds. When they turned on the computer, it said there was a connection available, and the icon appeared in the task bar, saying it was connected, but when they tried opening IE, it wanted them to connect to their other ISP, and it tried dialing. Scarecrow Man Posted March 7, 2006 Report Share Posted March 7, 2006 If you use dial-up, IE has a feature to automatically dial the default connection. If you are using Wi-Fi, you may still be asked to dial, since the connection is set as default.Open IE, go to Tools > Options, and under the connections tab, turn off "always dial my default connection"This should fix the problem, unless the Wi-Fi provider is using some sort of security. You should ask the provider if they are providing this for free, or if it is a pay-per-hour service.
