It was round about 1954.Crikey 1954 :0 That was a long time ago and the cars were vastly different from now!I think that F1 was first recognised as a motorsport back in 1950 so it was still very much in it's youth back then. Great to see tyre changes again. Great to see tyre changes again.I agree.It was an exciting race as there was less than a second in it between Alonso and Schumacher :0 I also agree that it was good to see the tyre changes again as in my opinion it was silly to get rid of them in the first place.Luckily for David Coulthard that he had the option of changing his tyre after he flat spotted it! Thos Posted March 13, 2006 Author Report Share Posted March 13, 2006 I didn't find the time to get on-line again after the race but I agree with the general view that it was a good starter for the new season which promises to be really competitive. Just in case Chris hasn't seen the race and doesn't know who won, Alonso was a worthy winner shaving it, through excellent Renault teamwork over Michael Schumacher .I would love to go to Silverstone and experience the race 'live' for the atmosphere but I expect you would get a better view on the TV.If you get the opportunity, do go to watch a live Grand Prix weekend. You do see the lot on TV and I am full of praise for the coverage but there are giant screens around the circuit and when you are at the circuit you can see action at the far side of the track. Pick your viewing spot carefully. If you are young(ish) and fit you can get a general admission ticket and choose your place from around the circuit but I think it better to buy a grandstand seat. I used to go to the stand at Becketts where you can watch the cars exiting the pit straight, through Maggots and Becketts and disappearing at top whack down Hangar straight. On later visits I bought premium tickets for the Paddock club, overlooking the Luffield etc. complex prior to the sweep into the final straight. There is a lot going on apart from the Grand Prix both on Qualifying day and especially on Race day. You can get around inside the perimeter and around the garage areas of the non GP cars, the Formula 3's and so on which have their own races. There are interesting stands, lots of food outlets and it is colourful, noisy and fun.
