Would be grateful for help

A software vendor has said I need to upgrade to msiexec 3

Microsofts update page says this is installed for XP by installing SP2

I have updated everything for XP

Update history shows SP2 installing succesfully

Running winver returns XP PRO Service Pack 2

BUT msiexec still returns 2.0.2600.0

How do I install ver 3 if upgrading to SP2 has not worked.

Thanks

I can't say that I fully understand the problem but a look at here may help.

Thanks, but that is where I started.

That page says to install microsoft's installer version 3 for XP to upgrade to Service Pack 2.

I did that from that page but Microsoft's Installer version 3 did NOT install.

The newest version of Windows Installer is 3.1 - see http://support.microsoft.com/?id=893803 for details and download.

I ran that command and it returns version 3

So presumably version 3 did install and the properties tab is telling lies by returning version 2

Both Windows Installer 3 and Windows Installer 3.1 came out twice, as v1 and v2.
