Octane Posted April 5, 2006 Report Share Posted April 5, 2006 Hey everyone,I recently decided to clean out some old files on my computer. So, I'm deleting old files and school work when I deleted a game that I didn't use anymore. It asked me to reset, so I hit accept, and now all of the graphics are messed up. I did some investigating in the control panel under display and there are 2 options, 2 color or 16 color. If I'm not mistaken, this should be at least 256 color. I am pretty sure I have an ATI graphics card, so I reinstalled the problem and in the final stage of installation it says it could not complete installation because there isn't matching hardware, or something along those lines.Anybody have any ideas? If you need to delete a program or game, use Add/Remove programs.Install the latest drivers from ATI. You may also need DirectX from MicrosoftEDIT:System restore didn't exist in Win98. I suppose I'd go into safe mode and try to switch the driver back to the generic VGA driver, uninstall the ATI driver, restart (Still in safe mode), attempt to install the ati driver again, and, provided it worked that time, restart into normal mode. In fact, the faculity for backing up has been available right from the start of Windows and before either in the operating system itself or via an independent program.When you are sorted out, I urge you and everyone else to make a full backup of your computer system.No point in thinking about it for the future or thinking "it can never happen to me" because one day it will - and here it has done. -pops- Posted April 6, 2006 Report Share Posted April 6, 2006 A little more helpful:Download SIW from here and you can find the model of graphics card (and a lot of other information) in your computer.
