Windows XP crashes when installing a fresh copy

Recommended Posts

Hi people,

Im having a problem installing a fresh copy of windows XP. At the beginning of the installation once all the drivers have been installed it says "windows is starting up" (just before the screen where it asks if you want to repair or install a new copy of windows) and just freezes.

I have tried swapping the dvd drive, psu, hd, ram, and just purposely bought a new MB but still didnt solve the problem, ive also tried windows home and professional but still no hope. The only thing i havent tried is the CPU. Does anyone one know if a faulty CPU would cause this? Is there a test program to see if the CPU is faulty?

Any help would be great,

Cheers
