Start up issues in Windows

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Hope you can help

I am running XP Home Edition and am having huge startup problems. My PC starts up without any problem at all, but once the desktop appears, I can access all of the icons on it, but my Startup bar has an hourglass for over two minutes, co I can not click on start or the calendar or anything at the bottom of the screen

I have looked around on various support websites and tries a 'Selective Startup' in MSConfig. When I chose each one seperately (WIN.INI, START.INI, STartup devices ....) the system starts with no problems at all.

Can anyone help me - I think there must be something wrong with the registry, but I have TuneUpo Utilities 2006 and it says everything is fine

Its driving me insane !!!!!!

:angry::angry:

Have you looked at the processes running in task manager whilst you have the problem - to try and see what is running at the time.

You might also try using Start Up Manager and/or Start Up Inspector (both free downloads) to see what programmes are starting up when you boot.

Check on the number of programs you have running at startup - probably too many and most of them not necessary.

Download Startup Inspector and that will tell you what is running at startup and what is or is not required to run. Far easier than msconfig or selective startup.

Make sure you follow the instructions and use the "consult" button to find out details of the programs trying to start and if they are required.
