tacojoethethird
Hey everyone! I'm having a problem with my login... Windows XP Home with SP2. The problem has been around for a while now but I still cannot seem to figure it out. Here's the deal: I start up my computer and everything works fine. At the welcome screen I click on my user and enter a password. It goes to the next step where it says "Loading personal settings" but never gets past that point. The only way to avoid this problem, is to turn on the computer and wait about 15 minutes before logging in (and sometimes I need to get on faster than that), or by using safe mode. So if anyone knows what's causing the problem and/or how to solve it, I'd really appreciate some info. Thanks!
-pops-
Welcome to WF :) Some suggestions:Do you regularly defragment your "C" drive? If not, do so.How much data is on the "C" drive and what is its size? I work on the principle that a "C" drive should be considered full when only half of the available capacity is being used (the other space is needed for Windows to operate correctly.)Is there a lot of unnecessary rubbish on the machine? Clean it up with Disk cleanup (Start -> All programs ->Accessories-> System tools -> disk cleanup) and with Ccleaner click here. Are there unnecessary programs in the startup sequence? Check them out with click here and remove anything that it tells you is not needed.
Scarecrow Man
Are you on a Domain? My domain computer, when not connected to the network takes sometimes up to 5 minutes to start. I have also noticed if it is getting quite hot, it will sometimes freeze during the log in. I will have to turn it off for two minutes and back on again. tacojoethethird
I defrag once every other week... My HD is 143 GB capacity, 44.4 GB used, 98.6 GB free. (I agree with your principle). I ran Disk Cleanup and CCleaner and the problem persists. Everything in Startup Inspector was fine. I am not on a domain... Just a home computer that my mom and I share. (She has the same problem as I do when logging in)
