'Run as ' question

I have two users on an XP pro machine. An admin with full rights and a user with limited rights. Lately when I’m trying to run a programme from the limited user using ‘run as’ I get a message saying I don’t have the rights to do so - it happens on all programmes. I’m sure I use the right password because I often used ‘run as' successfully on that machine. What can be the reason? :(

Another related question is : throughout the years I created and cancelled many users. But in the ‘run as’ users menu I only get the build in administrator and the first user I ever created (using it’s original name which I already changed many times) . Why is that? I have noticed that on other machines as well.

Running Firefox as administrator:

runas /user:administrator password %programfiles%\Mozilla\Firefox\firefox.exe

Well on XP for me I had to do

runas /user:administrator "%programfiles%\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

*ask for admin password* password

*starts*

I'm trying to figure out why I can't 'run as' some of the programmes . The link you provided says :

The Run As command cannot be used from the LocalSystem account in Windows XP Service Pack 2.

What does that mean? What's a LocalSystem account?

It probably means the Local Administrator cannot run a program as the Local Administrator.

Oh, and Bobp is right;

runas /user:administrator "%programfiles%\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

You do need the quotations, but I believe it does accept the password after the user. The syntax may be, /user:administrator password:password
