At current, they cannot see each other.One is connected to a printer, and I would like to be able to share this printer. However I have no idea how to do that.Is there a guide somewhere that could show me how to connect these things? (Both Win XP). ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted May 7, 2006 Author Report Share Posted May 7, 2006 OK, finally got to Akihabara and buy a new wireless connector, as the bl**dy Dell TrueMobile would never work correctly. Now both PCs are connected to the router, but so far my network hasn't emerged.Here's what I've done so farComputer 1: ran the network setup wizard, and created a network RITCHIE.NETComputer 1: rebooted, then shared the local printerComputer 2: ran the network setup wizard, and named the network RITCHIE.NETComputer 2: rebootNow on computer 1 I can open Windows Explorer, and I can see Ritchie.net, and under it both computers. But when I try to ping the other computer's IP address, it can't find it.On computer 2 I can ping the other computer successfully, but I can't see any computer on Ritchie.netWhat did I do wrong, or what additional steps do I need to take? As an expirament to find out if that's the problem, temporarily turn off the firewalls on both PC's.Were you pinging by name or IP Address? Pinging by IP Address is the most basic type of ping, and I recommend starting with that.Can you ping your router (default gateway) from both PC's?Can both PC's get to the Internet? I do have ZoneAlarm on both computers, and I did notice some ZA pop-ups on one computer that was pinged (which I allowed). And yes, I pinged with IP addresses, as the generated computer names are very long and complicated.The router pings successfully from both PCs, and both can access the Internet.Correction to my earlier post: I wrote that I named the network RITCHIE.NET, but it was the workgroup that is thus named.I will also check (when I'm back home) if the Client for Microsoft Networks is installed on both PCs.
