Thos Posted May 12, 2006 Report Share Posted May 12, 2006 Can anyone pilot me through the steps I need to take in these circumstances?I have HP image zone to use with the pictures from my HP R707 camera and it all works well. I want to see if there is an up-date for the software and when I click on the up-date software button, I get a message saying that "the file does not have an association etc." See screenshot :-I can find the Folder Options in the Control Panel and under the "file types" tab there is the file extension .hta, but what do I do then? How do I create an association which will do what I want, ie. open the file and get the software up-dated?Any help would be much appreciated.Thos. D4\/!d Posted May 12, 2006 Report Share Posted May 12, 2006 Hello Thos, I'll have a go :)I assume you're using XP.Tools>Folder Options>File Types tab>new>File Extension - type in hta> Advanced - drop down pick list>Associated File Type - pick the one you want. Should also work if the file association link is brokenRight click file you want the actions applied to --> select "open with" --> select "choose program" Navigate to the program you want to open the file with every time you click it . If you download the file with Internet Explorer, it will automatically open with mshta.exe; if you open it from your HD, you will have to associate it with mshta.exe to run it. I am a sort of mechanical operator in that I follow instructions but don't really know what I am doing or why I am doing it. Hence my problem in getting as far as the change the file association but no further. Therefore Pat's explanation of HTA file types was particularly useful.Anyway, I opened with IE and have upgraded the HP software satisfactorily now.Many thanks. to D4\/!d to Pushkin to Dorianand to PatThos.
