Suiton Posted June 9, 2006 Report Share Posted June 9, 2006 Trying to start up windows in safe mode, but once I get to the select boot menu, my keyboard seems to be disabled. I tried pressing F8 both earlier and later, but it only works at a very short period of time, and then the keyboard is disabled. After that short period of time in which I am able to enter the boot menu, the keyboard is disabled again, and is not re-enabled until I'm at the login menu.Any ideas of what is wrong? -pops- Posted June 9, 2006 Report Share Posted June 9, 2006 Is it a wireless or USB keyboard?If it's wireless then it relies on Windows being functional before the data transfer can take place. If it's USB it is possible that either your motherboard does not support USB itself (and relies on Windows to load it) or that the onboard USB is not enabled in the BIOS.The best type of keyboard to use when making computer adjustments is the old PS2 wired-in type.(Of course, all that I have written is rubbish if your problem computer is a laptop :( ) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
doug Posted June 9, 2006 Report Share Posted June 9, 2006 I have a Logitech keyboard and the F keys are not available by default. Suiton Posted June 9, 2006 Author Report Share Posted June 9, 2006 The keyboard is a Microsoft USB keyboard.Regarding the F-keys, the thing is that everything (F-lock is enabled) works when I press F8 to enter the menu, but then the keyboard acts like it isn't connected at all. -pops- Posted June 9, 2006 Report Share Posted June 9, 2006 In that case, as it's a MS wired USB, these are normally supplied with a USB to PS2 adapter. Do you still have this? You will then be able to plug it in the PS2 port and be certain that there is a connection.I have built lots of computers and serviced/repaired lots and lots more. I always do the work using a wired keyboard and mouse with the luxury of USB or wireless only coming when all other basic operations of the machine are up and running.
