dansbot
im new to the forum so sorry if this has benn posted befor...well, today i turned on my computer and got this messege..."Since windows was first activated on this computer, the hardware on the computer has changed significantly. Due tothese changes, Windows must be reactivated within 3 days.Do you want to reactivate Windows now?"...when I try to boot up my computer.I click "Yes", of course -- and it gives me this blank window titled "Activate Windows". It never loads. Completely blank. I left it up for at least an hour the other day to make sure, and it still didn't load. I've tried from SafeMode, from another resolution, opening it up from programs (instead of waiting for it to come up when I boot), etc. but it just won't work -- it's always a blank window. How am I supposed to activate Windows before my computer stops working?????? -pops-
The best thing to do in situations like this is go to Microsoft themselves for help. Only they have sufficient knowledge - and authority - to get you going again.

-pops-
Oh! Whenever I've had to call MS regarding activation the person I spoke to was of the country where I was calling from and who was very polite and very helpful. It can be different if you're making general enquiries when it is possible to be speaking to their overseas "customer care" centre. But, the only legal way to get you out of this situation is for MS to activate the system by telling you the procedure to follow and possibly a new product key. djohn
Hello dansbot and welcome. :) When you boot and see the message, ignore it and let your machine fully boot. Once its finished connect to the internet then click on your 'Start' button/all programs/accessories/system tools and you will see the link to 'Activate windows' Click on that and it should auto activate with a message on-screen to say so. If it fails for any reason, use this phone number to customer services at Microsoft and they will do it for you, very painless and no personal questions will be asked from you. This is not the usual activate phone number that comes on screen and you have to go through options.Microsoft UK Tel: 0870 60 10
trackrat
Have a read of this, but it does not give the phone number for the USA.http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:A_jvC5L...=1&client=opera
nellie2
I think... that if you chose the option to activate by phone then Windows will give you the number to call. Having said that, I had a problem a couple of years ago and I needed to call Microsoft, the number I used was with the documentation in the box that the software came in. cozofdeath
I believe nelly2 is right. Also if you have windows xp you may not be able to ignore the message because I don't think xp gives you a grace period if you significantly change parts. Your best bet is to call and if they tell you to reformat or reinstall and you don't want to post back.
Mal
Thanks guys. I've had that same message come up for the past couple of days. I tried djohn's instuctions and it worked perfectly. Any one else: just make sure you click the box marked something like "don't bother to register, just activate" and it all goes perfectly.Mal
