Rune Posted June 19, 2006 Report Share Posted June 19, 2006 Freshly re-installed Win XP Home and MediaPlayer 11 with all updates. Standard settings. Everything seems OK. But now MediaPlayer refuse to display standard MPEG or DVDs. Have downloaded and installed various both free and comercial decoders and codecs, pero nada... dadyassa Posted June 19, 2006 Report Share Posted June 19, 2006 Have you tried K-lite codecsMS dont want you to uninstall any of their media players because they dont give an uninstall option, it can be done but is a registry change. 11 is still abeta version, does it give you an option to roll back to version 10.Or perhaps downloading 10 again will go over the top of 11. Rune Posted June 19, 2006 Author Report Share Posted June 19, 2006 I managed to uninstall MP 11 and rolled back to ver. 10. I reinstalled the codecs, but it is same s***. Upgraded. New wrapping, but same s***. Sound, but no picture. Both WinXP and MediaPlayer have standard options. The MS Firewall has standard restrictions, and Safety is Low. Scarecrow Man Posted June 19, 2006 Report Share Posted June 19, 2006 Do you have a dual-display video card? If you do, make sure the secondary display is off. They may have a FAQ section on thier website, or a knowledge base with common problems.and Yes, it could be a hardware problem.Have you tried using an old driver? The whole point of beta software is for large scale testing. It does not necessarily represent the final product that will be issued.Have you tried repairing or re-installing this player?When you downloaded it originally did you first load on to your hard drive and then install or did you install as it was downloading? And yes, I used the Microsoft Help Online on how to roll-back form ver.11 to 10. So I have now got ver.10.00.004036.As normal with updates from Microsoft Update I did not save the file itself to a personally chosen directory first, and then extract\install it. Who do that? My broadband transfer files quick, and I have never had any problems with file-failure or corrupt Microsoft Update. I started with ver.10. Problems. Went up to 11. Same problems. And back again. My ver.11 was running ok before formatting the disk, re-installing Win Home XP, upgradeing etc. This PC is now working 100% perfect, unless MS Mediaplayer (now) 10. But the problem persists. This installation (from a PacardBell-OEM CD) went well, with Microsoft verification-test, SP 2 etc. etc. This seems like a freak bug to MediaPlayer. I am really not longer shure, but I think I went straight to ver. 11 in the updateprosess after my WinXP reinstall (containing ver.10) without starting MediaPlayer 10 first. Today I formatted the harddisk again, NTFS, reinstalled WinXP Home, updated everything from Microsoft with SP2 and Mediaplayer 10, updated the PackardBell BIOS and the AGP-drivers, scanned for viruses (Norton), malware (Microsoft Defender) and faults (ErrorSafe). The disk is defragmented and surfacetested. I have tried to install some 5 -6 codec-packages from Internet, and looked at the systemsettings in ControlPanel, Devices. Everything looks ok, and the PC work well in all programs and display Flash and StreamingVideo from the Web in InternetExplorer...But still neither Mediaplayer or RealPlayer display any video, mpg or mpeg. These programs, with standard settings, apparently play the files, but there is only sound, and I get no warnings... I can play these files and videos on my other PC, with the same standard settings, with no problem, so I suppose this is a hardwarefault, but yet ...I would be happy if anybody could respond with a clue on how to test, find the fault or better: resolve this problem. This must be a software-thing, with lack of basic drivers. No programs on my laptop play mpgs. Or a defect in the videocard of some sort. How can I find out?
