YEYSS; Ive just somewhat suprising ly opened the server; wondered what had happened!!! :(

BUT; I notice they have NOT changed the format OF the server to include a spam box for us to tell THEM what is and what is NOT spam; really could have done with that :angry:

my next question is this; what settings do people use for their OE to send mails via the talkgas server ; I am still unable to send mails although I can retrieve them from the server via my OE;

??any offers? :unsure:

If you are using another isp to send via you must alter the outgoing to match that particular detail, i.e. incoming will be pop.talkgas.net and the outgoing will be for example relay.force9.net.

Does that help?

That is what I do and I have no problem sending or receiving.

I think I need to experiment with my "log on using " settings; but may do this on another machine

at present the incoming mail server is set to talkgas but I think log on needs to be via my bt address( which at presetn it is not!); this is something for my other machines play time ;)

(and I cannot spell neither )

Your log on must be your correct login and password for the e-mail address you are setting up so for Talkgas it will be the talkgas one and for the bt account it should be the bt one.

It is only the outgoing and incoming server that has to be altered slightly the outgoing showing in your case the bt setting.

Hope that helps and I haven't misunderstood your query?

if one goes to tools/accounts/properties/server/settings/log on using or use same setting as ; I think I need to change that settign to the log on using and put in my bt address; but will try it on another machine incase I mess up the present system; so far my system bounces the mails back as non autherticated by the AVG scanner; and mails have not been authenticated although I have ticked that box AS authentic

will have to experiemt on a machine that I can play around with :(

In OE it's tools/accounts/ (talkgas.net - highlighted) properties/servers. Your incoming mail (POP3) should be pop.talkgas.net your outgoing mail (SMTP) must be the address of your ISP with the letters smtp before it. In my case the box has (smtp.tiscali.co.uk) in it.

I had the same problem when I first whent onto tiscali broadband, I asumed the smtp would still be talkgas but it wouldn't work so I rang tiscali and a very nice man put me right. Hope it helps you.

Just a thought, why have you got the 'my server requires authentication' box ticked? Most don't, so if you have all the other settings correct try removing the tick.

I don't use Talkgas but I would rather have no SPAM box (as I have now) then have a SPAM box that is too restrictive.

When I used to be with AOL, on a few occasions it prevented me from accessing these legitimate e-mails as the domain was blocked for a number of days which I found really annoying :angry:

that is required on most addresses these days to help prevent all the spam; I am required to use it;

I"m on a different machine at present and will try to change my settings later to see if I CAN sent mails from within my oe; I THINK it may be the log in part that needs changing; what is happening at present is that ALL mails sent from within my oe from the talkgas address are "bounced back" as a non authenticated mail address; if I can get this bit sorted I may be progressing

however, I DO WISH that the server whoudl include a spam /junk mail box so WE could tell THEM what is and what is NOT spam; I have had TERRIBLE problems getting legitimate mail addresses "OK"d by that server; it is almost as if that server is..can one say."behind the times"

;

I am presuming that other thread readers and those who also have alternative mail servers CAN process their outgoing mails via talkgas and OE with no problems?

(NB; BT requires that mail addresses ARE authenticated via its server, as do many other providers these days to try and stop the spam))

Hi

I must confess having three ISP's running on my single machine non of them need authentication and I have three talkgas e-mail addresses and have no problem sending or receiving as soon as I altered the outgoing to correspond with the broadband account I am using.

I did get them bounced back prior to that alteration.

My virus software has spam included so I can have anything with spam on it just put into a separate folder. Must say the virus software is more accurate than my ISP's decision on what and what isn't spam!

not that I wish to prolongue this thread any longer than it needs to be; but are others agreed on the fact that the server really does need to have a junk/spam box on it for US to tell THEM what is and what is NOT spam? as, at present we get no choice at all;

my other server DOES give me the access to the spam folder and I have already educated IT on some no spam addresses

(and

Pushkin; just noticed your signature bit ( and the authentication issue is not the problem here for me ) )

I can’t say I’ve ever had a problem with spam. I don’t use there web mail which I get a feeling you’re referring to, I always use OE or IncrediMail. IncrediMail has its own spam filter and OE has a spam folder put there by Norton Internet Security, my virus software, so I don’t have the problems that you seem to have.

As with Peggy Sue I have the same set up so it doesn't actually bother me at present although I can understand it being a nuisance. So in principle yes I agree but in reality am not too worried.

it does actually niggle ME as all the other web mail sites I go to HAVE a spam box available (and until I first saw the yahoo server I was unaware that the facility was actually available); I had a long battle with the talk gas support some while ago about mails NOT being delivered that WHERE and are genuine; IF that server gave us that option to tell THEM what is spam , then perhaps some progress might be made?

I have actually changed several settings on discussion groups and mail contacts etc because I am unable to educate the talkgas server to what IS and what is NOT genuine; it is a rather , I think, un-userfriendly portal and my suggestion for whoever programs it might be to give it a spam portal for readers to tell THEM the spam addresses :flowers:

if you only use your OE program you do not actually get to see what is in your spam box on your server, and you do have to open your server to check the Spam box; I check my other servers frequently to see if mails have been incorrectly sent to the spam box

I would like talkgas to adapt their server to allow us to have access to the spam box and "educate" it ;)

Hi

Yes shockingly have found the same and do not know how to pick my mail up? Have you found a way? Also for some reason my OE will not pick it up either although I know there are 70 + awaiting retrieval??

What is going on?

Sending me quietly mad this year! :blink:

those of you who are still with talkgas

has the home page dramatically changed :unsure:

I now get

http://www.house.co.uk/cgi-bin/house/house...hannelId=/House :unsure:

courtesy of a reply to an enquiry of mine elsewhere and my delving down the british gas page

server type POP3

incoming mail server pop.supanet.com

outgoing mail server smtp.supanet.com

however, I have slightly different settings in my outgoing mail server as my outgoing mail has to be directed through another server :D my mailwaswher has had to be also reprogrammmed

buit I have now successfully sent and retrieved mails from the talkgas site

how I log into the mail themselves ON the site I have yet to sus out ; I searched last night for a mail tab but with no success :censored:

??does that help my fellow talkgas comrades?

I have also located this bit of info

http://www.supanet.com/help/

if it helps

still cannot sus out where to try and log in

for my comradres ; I have successfully sent and retrieved (via OE) several test messages all of which seem to have been processes correctlyand using mailwasher , having reprogramed IT

so...DV all SHOULD be ok if you ammend YOUR settings;

please note; if talkgas is your "second" address you may need to adjust the route OUT of your OE to accomodate it,the same as i have had to do

I have my suspicious that access to the the web mail bit may be more problematic so one may have to be content whith just retrieving mails from the server :)
