talkgas web mail

just spoken with the help desk who inform me that the web site is off line for maintenance; (yea....right..... next story)

OK?

if it IS off line, then could someone explain to ME why/how I am STILL able to send and receive via OE and get my mailwasher to check the site, if in FACT the site is off line?

when my BT went off line for site maintenance I could not even check the server with any of my tools as the server was not there TO BE checked;

so how come I can still mail via my tools but NOT find nor open the server?

and

webmail.talkgas.tv

apparently is a false trail :(

I have a 'work-around' to suggest to the talkgas folks

the web site is 'down' (apparently) BUT Outlook express still works; HOW it does with the server off line I just do not know :(

are those of you who use the web mail able to program your Outlook express or outlook programs to enable THEM to facilitate the talk gas mails?

muy OE still sends and receives from SOMEWHERE talk gas related so...why not try THAT option?

  • 4 weeks later...

As of yesterday ( 4/8/07 ) OE has been returning:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.talkgas.net', Server: 'pop.supanet.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

on my Talkgas account.

Is it just me?

welcome to anyone new to this treasure hunt challenging thread of 'search for the server and settings '

the NEXT part of the saga is

change your settings to

tools/accounts /mail/(choose talkgas)/properties/server

rename your INCOMING server to

pop.talkgas.tv

I have done two tests and much to my surprise ., it works :flowers: :D

if you use mailwasher you will also need to change settings within it too :(

any feedback from the folks following this and caught up in this delightfully changing scene would be useful :flowers:

Hi

I have tried chnging my pop server settings but it still doesnt work can pick up my account on th url but i want them in my in box. The reason I dont want to lose my email is it is so easy to tell people, and now everybody knows it.

glassy.

exactly what settings ( names )have YOU got in your outlook express program for this account for the incoming and outgoing servers?

pop.talkgas.tv

smtp.orangehome.co.uk

am using windows mail

dont know about windows mail but if similar TO outlook express

tools/accounts/mail/properties/servers/outgoing mail/ is 'my server requires authentication' ticked?

erm;; also; if you ARE on orange....

some info on

orange forum just MIGHT help you?

does THIS get you any closer to being able to download your emails from the takgas server?

have you mailed OUT FROM the talk gas address in YOUR e mail client?

another point; with IE6 browser open

go to

tools/internet options/programs

what does it say in the email program box?

Have ie 7 and there is no default program set for email at the moment.

the e mail you sent from your windows mail ( and NOT from the talkgas server site, although both have arrived!!) HAS arrived ; NOW try mailing yourself from within the windows mail program ; will it let you upload IT to your computer ?

Have tried to send myself the message but my inbox wont pick it up have tried using both my talkgas and my orange address to talkgas.

When I login on the url it will be there in my inbox but I cant access it because I cant open any of the messages that are there or delete or move them.

sorry but I jusy gotta laugh :( :D

OK; have you put this

pop.talkgas.tv

in your INCOMING ?

from the little I know I have looked at your headers and the trail and you seem to go just about EVERYWHERE

thought of changing another address for you

try the smtp as freeserve.com?

you can always change things back if they fail so keep a record of what you have done

of interest, CAN you send and receive with your free serve (orange )address?

 no laughing allowed, yes i can send with my orange account, it has no problems merrily sending and receiving. I have changed my outgoing to pop.talkgas.tv promise up until yesterday it was still supanet.com which I found from this thread. I have another e mail address but I am very fond of my talkgas.net and reluctant to let go it is sort of like an old blanket or giving up smoking.
