andsome
For the information of music lover who may not be aware, the Proms are starting at 7-30PM on BBC 2. Mozart, Smetana and Dvorák are featured in part one. For newcomers to music the piece by Smetana could well be an eyeopener. It is part of a Symphonic poem called Ma Vlast, which translates as My Country. Only one movement is being played and this is titled Vltava, pronounce Voltava, it depicts the journey of the river Vltava through Czechoslovakia, and is one of the most tuneful pieces in the repertoire, and is easily understood and appreciated by even the most musically naive. At about 8-50PM the second half consists of Symphony number 5 by Shostakovitch. It has some very dark moments, but has an extremely tuneful and triumphal ending.
