Deleted XP, Still have a Serial

Recommended Posts

I used to have Windows XP and then I tried vista without reading what could happen. My main operating system is Windows Vista Beta 2 now. Before, when I had Windows XP, I right clicked on "My Computer" and the clicked Properties. I saw there was a seriall # on that screen so I decided to write it down in case I would ever need it for some reason. It looked like this: XXXXX-OEM-XXXXXXX-XXXXX. Is there any way that I could use that seriall # to prove that I had Windows XP and get a copy and use that seriall in some way? Could I show Microsoft and they could give me another copy of XP?

Any help would be great.

Thank you!! :)

If you have the original Windows CD, it is reasonably easy to reinstall XP. There is a guide on this forum. If you don't, then I'm afraid that this is not much help, and you will have to do as suggested above, it is a salutary lesson in the perils of buying mass produced computers from company's that do not supply an installation CD. If indeed this is typical of your case, you can always contact them and ask for a CD, but there will almost certainly be a charge.
