Windows Vista advisor

I was curious whether my computer will be able to run Vista when it eventually emerges from the Beta fog.

I downloaded the Microsoft Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor which confirmed that I will be able to enjoy all its features except TV (Cuz I do not have a TV media card).

I hasten to add this was just curiousity - I am unlikely to change to Vista until it reaches SP2 or equivalent.

Like you, Alan, I have no intention of upgrading this machine to Vista but I ran the Advisor out of curiosity.

Initially it told me that I would be able to run Vista successfully on the setup as it is but then, further into the pages, I am informed that there are no drivers for some items (implying there won't be either), to go to Microsoft update to obtain several things and to go to the device manufacturer for others.

From full encouragement to complete disappointment in two clicks of the mouse. :(

Although I have NO intention of upgrading this computer, I ran the tool out of curiosity after the above postings. BEWARE, it leaves a load of rubbish behind even after uninstalling it. I ran START/SEARCH and discovered several entries which I removed, and this was AFTER a system restore. I then ran Crap Cleaner and RegScrubXP, and deleted more rubbish.

andsome - I cannot replicate your experience.

After uninstalling the programme - using control panel etc - I cannot find any rubbish left over.

I have done a manual regedit and search with Windows Explorer for any registry entries, files or folders and drew a blank. I ran Regscrub which found 7 items - but these were not related to the MS programme and also ran CrapCleaner which came up with the usual list - but nothing to do with the MS programme.

The icon has been removed from the desktop and the programme is not listed in start>programmes.

I have not done a system restore because in my situation I don't see the need.

Where else should I look?
