Big trouble

Recommended Posts

I have a big problem with my windows XP. Each time it gets between the loading screen of windows and the welcome screen, it restarts. So when I start my computer it just keeps restarting and restarting and restarting. Luckily I have on a different partition WinMe installed and this one still works. My problem happened just after I had instaled AviSynth and I was trying to install swiftAVS but the setup.exe didn't load and slowed down my computer. Even after I ended it's process using ctrl+alt+del. So I restarted my comp and then became the "circle of death". Gimme ideas here, what can I do to fix this?

Thanx

totally agree with mark2, hold F8 while booting and select SAFE MODE. if system restore doesn't work, try uninstalling the program you installed prior to your problem starting.

Welcome to the forum, may your stay be a long and happy one!!

OK go to control panel >system>advanced>startup and recovery>click on settings>system failure > remove the tick from automatically restart.

You should then be able to view the error messages along with the BSOD, then we can work from there

ooops error can't get that far   dumb!!

Unfortunately you won't be able to do it from ME.

The simplest option now would be to do a repair of the XP installation from the CD and then to remove the problem programs..

If you can explore the XP partition from ME you may be able to delete the folders of the offending programs before the repair ?

SFC is available on windows xp. You type sfc /scannow with the xp disk in the drive. Note there is a space between the sfc and /scannow ;)

All this is not much good for King_Cold, Hi and welcome :D , if the loading of xp is going in a loop. :(

the repair option looks the best one. Set the bios to boot from cdrom, first option. Load the xp disk in and startup. Let it run as a normal installation, read all the prompts, you will come to one that gives you the repair option "R". Pick this and see if it will help.
