why zip goes wrong

Recently I tried zipping some files and emailing them to a friend. but when he got them, he could open the zip ok, but most of the folders were empty, and two folders had files that weren't supposed to be there. So, we tried a few times with the same result. Any Ideas what's going on? How can I fix this? I'm using Win XP home, and this problem just started yesterday the computer had been working fine until then.

Don't automatically assume the problem is at your end. ISPs have a size limit on large files (yours must be large otherwise you wouldn't have zipped them) and you may have exceeded this limit either from your ISP or that of your recipient.

Are there copies of the email in your "sent items" file? If so, check to see the state of the zips in there. If you don't have retained copies, try sending some more but ensure that you keep a copy and look at what state your retained ones are in if there is a further problem.

dont use the "zip and email" option from the winzip menu > it contains some flaws in some versions

best way to do this is: download Winrar [at rarlabs.com] > then use Winrar to create a winzip file [faster en better] > then open your mail > add file > send mail

but if this doesnt work [sending in email part] you could try uploading the file at: yousendit.com or filefactory.com

Also may email providers/apps have built in or some sort of virus protection which can remove files if there seen as something bad. Was he getting an error message? If the CRC values remain the same the file will remain the same. You can also try using an md5 checker to make sure the original file arrived unchanged.
