Windows updates

Something has recently turned off parts of my AVG antivirus such that it didn't auto-update or do its daily scan. I found that this was associated with an non-permitted turning on of Windows Firewall.

I turned Windows Firewall off and now everything is back to normal again but I get damned irritated when things happen without my knowledge or permission.

Why should Windows Firewall affect my antivirus? I know it is that because if I turn it on again and reboot, AVG is disabled.
