Heleyon Posted October 25, 2006 Report Share Posted October 25, 2006 Despite searching posts on this site and others for a while now, I can't find a solution to what must be a common problem.Many of my folders in My Docs have unusual properties. For example: a folder holding general files is customised as a photo album. So it will have a column for 'date picture taken', which is of course empty, as they're not picture files. Interestingly, in the properties dialogue box, under the customise tab, the 'folder type' is set to 'documents - for any file type'.The overall problem is that Windows Explorer takes no notice of me when I change these folder properties.Anyone encountered this? Me Hello Heleyon, welcome to WF.I am glad you have asked this question. I have the same problem. Explorer takes no notice of me I can sometimes get round the problem by doing what pops says (good ol' pops ) It is tiresome though when it happens so often.AlanHo, I even adopt your suggestion sometimes. It is temporary though and only lasts for the life of that pane :( (Ok Alan, here's a bunch for you too LOL )Others have said you can change a bag setting in the registry to allow XP to permit more (5000+) folders - tried that. It don't work for me, and in any case it 'sposed to be fixed in SP2. Yeah Right. On my computer, if I add or delete any columns in the right hand window - they stay.Before posting my suggestion I double checked by making an amendment to a folder and re-booting the computer. D4\/!d Posted October 26, 2006 Report Share Posted October 26, 2006 Ah now that's interesting Thanks for taking the trouble to do your little test - I know how long it seems to take to do a re-boot ;) I have to repeat though: Explorer takes no notice of me rolleyes.gifI have many many music files. Sometimes the folders contain the odd jpg of an album cover. So explorer wants to display columns relating to photos. I want columns relating to mp3s. This is when I have used pops method to create a new folder then copying the contents. But it's tiresome.btw even when the folder contains nothing but music files, I can often get a document style layout with the basic : name, size, type, date modified columns.
